California Japantowns - Exploring the preservation of history, culture, and community...

Isleton

By 1918, 1,110 Japanese resided in the small delta town of Isleton with many working in nearby fields and local canneries. A long block with multiple businesses in various storefronts lined the Japanese section by 1940, including 5 pool halls, 4 restaurants, a fish market, bathhouse, church and Japanese school. Although Isleton was designated as a Asian American historic district on the National Register and remains almost fully intact, little has been documented on the Japantown history.
