Monterey
What once resembled a fishing village with Japanese immigrants filling the canneries and bringing their catch to sell at market stalls along Fisherman's Wharf, has been captured in two community books on the Japanese Americans of Monterey and a display at the Maritime Museum. Although little is left along the frequented tourist sites to note the former Japanese presence, a dedicated JACL group has designated the nearby former Japanese Hall at 424 Adam Street as a local landmark and continues to cultivate cultural arts and community.
