Visalia
Visalia served an influx of laborers from many smaller Japanese settlements in the Central Valley during its high season with 6 hotels, 7 restaurants, a theater, and various stores. Although very little remains of the pre-war buildings along Center Street, a commercial building at 413-433 E. Center Street noted for its Chinatown history, also held several Japanese businesses - a café and pool hall, Oda's Barber Shop, Star Barber, Kitano Drug Store, and Star Co. Store. The Sumida family returned after the war and operated a pharmacy and convenience store along Center Street for several decades. The Visalia Buddhist Church is the remaining vestige of the former Japanese community.
